20 weeks - half way there!

6/19/2013 - 20 weeks and 4 days

6/18/2013

How I Look - I had to move our scale back from the bathroom wall because I couldn't stand on it, that's how much my belly is protruding.

Weight :  +2.5 lbs.

How I Feel - Pretty good.  My upper back has been sore lately, probably because of the way I'm sleeping at night.  I really should break out some extra pillows to snuggle and for support.

Symptoms -  No swelling, no leg cramps, no heartburn.  I did have a headache one night this past week but that's about it, Tylenol is a life saver!

Cravings - Nothing in particular.  Really liking soup.

Exercise - We went on a family vacation to South Padre Island so I didn't work out at all from Wed-Sun.  I did fit in some cycling and elliptical on Mon & Tues this week.

What I'm Looking Forward To -  Vacationing in South Padre Island with friends and family was great.  We had an awesome condo on the beach, they even had a pool.  While in SPI we explored Gladys Porter Zoo and saw tons of baby animals, went on a Sunset Fireworks Cruise that included dolphin sightings and the opportunity to hold sea stars, sea slugs and a butterfly ray (Ry loved the sea star), and on our last day we visited the Sea Turtle Rescue Center which was really interesting and Ry went gaga over the turtles.  You can find pictures and more info on our trip on my TypicalTina blog.

I finally felt my baby girl move while we were on vacation!  We were on the fireworks cruise when I felt a soft kick.  I almost missed it.  Luckily she did it again to let me know I wasn't imagining anything.

Odds & Ends -
Today was another important doctors appointment and the anatomy ultrasound!!!  The ultrasound double confirmed my MaterniT21 results, definitely a girl.  :)   Baby girl looks great, she has all her fingers and toes, her heartbeat was 150 bpm and she weighs about 14 oz.  The Dr said she's right on track, but everything I've looked up online says the baby should be around 10 oz.  Of course she was active and not cooperative when trying to take pictures, she liked to give us her back (nice spine!).  However the tech managed to snag a nice 4D profile shot.  Next appointment will be in 4 weeks.

For the 2nd time I've had to give blood to check my thyroid.  For some reason it raises a flag on the first screening, then they deep dive it and the results are in range.  They said it's nothing to be concerned about but they'll keep on monitoring it.  I'll have another test in my 3rd tri just to be safe.

12 weeks

4/24/2013 - 12 weeks and 4 days

Today was my big doctors appointment and screening!  I'm happy to say everything went well with the ultrasound. The NT test (nuchal translucency screen) came back great, nice and thin.  Our little pumpkin (as affectionately referred to by the technician) was very active; moving around all over the place, stretching, and flipping from back to front.  We had to wait a good 15 mins for baby to tire out before we could get the right angle to measure the NT tissue.  The Dr said everything looked great and all limbs, brains, etc were all present and accounted for.  :)  The heartbeat was at a healthy 152 bpm.  After the ultrasound they gave me the MaterniT21 packet and sent me to the lab for blood work.  I was surprised that they only needed 2 vials of blood!  It will take 7-10 days to get the results back, which should also tell us the gender!  After the lab I headed down to my OBGYN's office for my checkup, which lasted all of 5 mins.  It's so nice that the ultrasound office, lab and my Dr's office are all in the same building!  Next appointment is in 4 weeks.
Nice profile!

Hi mom and dad!

Sweet baby foot and toes!
How I Look - The same as last week.  I forgot to take a bump picture, but I'll definitely provide one at 13 weeks.

Weight:  -3 lbs (the same)

How I Feel - Nausea has returned, sigh.  I thought I was through it but apparently baby said "ha!"  I started feeling icky again this past Saturday.  I felt sick after my nieces bday party, probably due to the fact that I ate two full lobster rolls.  My guess was the lobster was way too rich for me and ran right through my system.  Then on top of that I had a virgin piña colada, which I think was way too sweet and caused me to throw up.  :(  I managed to eat dinner and thought I was through the worst of it, but then Sunday morning as I was on my way to a 5K race I threw up again.  Needless to say no race for me.  I ended up sleeping most of the day away.  I've also decided no more lobster (I'll allow lobster bisque) or virgin piña coladas for me.  The rest of the week I've been OK, feeling icky here and there.

Symptoms - Tired, some headaches and dizziness, nausea....oh and pregnancy blemishes on my chest!  UGH!

Cravings - Fruit, veggies and mac n cheese.  Fruit seems to really help settle my stomach when I start feeling icky.

Exercise - Only worked out twice this week. Mainly due to the fact that I felt nausea and tired most of the week, or had lunch plans.  ;)  My run Fri morning was great!

We're having a...

BOY!
4D image - Baby Boy Malek!  11/24/2010

We had our 20 week anatomy ultrasound this morning and to our surprise and delight we are having a boy! :)  Baby Boy Malek looked great and is tracking right on schedule.  He was being stubborn at first when trying to take specific shots of him and the tech asked which one of us was the stubborn one.  We said "both of us" in unison, which made the tech giggle.  There was no doubt that he's a boy as we had a nice full on view, HELLO BOY!  It was amazing watching him move on the screen and stretching those long legs!  Now we can focus on decorating the nursery and finding a name!  I think picking out the name is going to be the toughest part.  We just can't seem to agree on anything!

We are super excited and extra thankful this year, perfect timing as Thanksgiving is tomorrow.  :)

13 weeks

1 week to go and I'll be in my second trimester!!!

Today I had my 13 week appointment and my first screening, Malek tagged along for the ultrasound part.  This was a very exciting doctor visit and we spent a good hour watching the baby on the monitor.  We got a ton of sonogram pictures, including a great face shot (perfect for Halloween).  However the little rascal wasn't cooperating to take the one necessary shot we needed.  I had to empty my bladder twice and turn on my side to try and move the baby into position.  Success!  The Dr told us everything looked good, good baby.  Afterwards they took another vial of blood (those darn vampires!) and then I headed down to my OBGYN (different appointment).  That was the shortest appointment ever!  It literally took 5 mins. They let me hear the heartbeat of the baby (pretty cool!), said I looked great, and they sent me on my way.  Next appointment is in 4 weeks.  I will be able to find out the sex of the baby at 20 weeks (Thanksgiving).

Hi baby Malek!  Profile shot

Scary face picture - perfect for Halloween

How I Look - My friends have declared that I now look pregnant.  I have a small yet noticeable bump.  Those that know I'm pregnant obviously know what's going on, otherwise I'm sure most people think I'm just putting on some belly weight.  Amazingly still no weight gain!
How I Feel - Excited!  The Dr's appointment today was awesome!!!  I was able to see our baby and it actually looked like a baby, the 1st sonogram looked like a chicken nugget.  There really is a baby in there!  Physically I still feel great.  So far so good, no issues.
Symptoms - Haven't really noticed anything this week.  Though Malek says I can be cranky at times.  Me? cranky?  :P
Cravings -  I don't think I had any cravings this week...at least none that I can remember.  I did want a super sud from Pok-e Jo's yesterday...and when I didn't think I was gonna get it I was actually kinda sad.  Amanda said I pouted until I found it on the menu.
Exercise - I ran on Monday and Thursday this week, and I have a 5K race on Sunday (my birthday).  I love this cooler weather, my pace has improved!  I also made it to the gym on Tuesday for my elliptical workout.

Can you see the slight bump?  I think it's more noticeable in a white shirt.
My new bike that Malek and the kids gave me for my bday!

1st checkup

Friday I had my first pregnancy checkup.  The appointment took a good 2 hours to go through everything - exam, information, giving blood and ultrasound.  I've never given so many vials of blood before!  8 vials total.  The most exciting and last part of my visit was the ultrasound.  I had to chug water for 30 mins because apparently you need a full bladder for the exam and since I had given two urine samples earlier I needed to replenish.  I must say the experience seemed so surreal.  I was just in awe when I finally saw our baby up on the monitor.  I could even see the tiny flicker of light that is the heart beat.  I was so caught up in the image that it took me a second to process what the Dr had been saying.  He confirmed there was only one baby.  Holy Moly!!  Twins hadn't even crossed my mind, even though they do run on both sides of our family.  I had a slight moment of anxiety and then relaxed when I remembered there was only one baby.  The Dr told me everything looked great and that I'm running right on schedule with my dates (7 weeks along).  Then he handed me 2 sonogram pictures and sent me on my way.  I was so glad it was Friday, I was bursting with excitement to show Malek the pictures!  We met up for lunch at Chuy's and marveled over our little rascal.  Later that evening we told our families the wonderful news.
